Jochen currently works for BMW as a Car Designer where he plays an active role in shaping the interiors of its future cars. Together with a team of engineers and model makers it is his job to turn a design into reality. His most recent work includes the BMW VISION EffcientDynamics CONCEPT CAR for which Jochen was the Interior Designer. He was also one of the team members who worked on the interior design of the new 6-SERIES.
Before joining BMW in 2006 he was employed by Volkswagen for five years where he designed the interior of the VOLKSWAGEN AMAROK.
Jochen was born in Belgium but spent his youth in several countries. Having lived in Belgium, South Africa, France, England and The Netherlands, he currently resides in Germany. It is this constant change that led to his interest in different cultures and languages (he is fluent in 5 languages) and he finds continual inspiration from the many places he has been.
Wherever they moved Jochen’s family maintained a passionate interest in motor sport, taking him to venues like Zolder, Spa-Francorchamps, Zeltweg (A1 Ring today), Kyalami, Zandvoort and Le Mans from a very young age. This left a lasting impression on him.
Although Jochen has been drawing as long as he can remember, it was not until he went to The British School of Paris as a teenager that he was encouraged to pursue a career in design. After leaving the BSP, he went to Coventry University in England to attend the renowned four-year Transportation Design course. Following on from this, Jochen was one of 15 students worldwide accepted to attend the prestigious Royal College of Art in London to follow the two-year Vehicle Design Masters programme. After Graduating, it was Volkswagen who offered him his first job as an Interior Designer.
As a Designer, Art is never far away and Jochen’s passion to draw extends beyond his job into his spare time. His Automotive Artwork invites the observer into the fast world of racing with colourful, moving, detailed depictions of varying scenes. Capturing a moment in time, often as a close-up, Jochen’s work emits energy and a love for detailing that takes you to the middle of the action.
